Medical undersupply is a major problem in large parts of Africa. Hospitals often lack staff, basic medical equipment, necessary medicines and clinics that can reach people in remote rural areas. In Cameroon, statistically there is only one doctor for every 10,000 people, compared to 300 people and one doctor in Germany. The World Health Organization (WHO) lists 57 countries where the shortage is particularly critical, 36 of which are in sub-Saharan Africa.
